Christian Ave. Water Line Slated for Replacement

Improvements set to begin in July, according to The Village Times Herald.

A 6,500-foot water main running along Christian Avenue in Stony Brook will be replaced beginning in July after the Suffolk County Water Authority determined it to be too clogged to operate efficiently, according to a report published Thursday in The Village Times Herald.

The improvements will cost the water district's 1,367 customers about $1.4 million. The water main runs from Knoll Top Rd. to Houghton Blvd on Christian Ave., where authorities said traffic congestion may result from the work being done. The work should take about a month, according to the report, and will require water quality testing and repaving parts of the road following the upgrades.

Town councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld, D-East Setauket, told The Village Times Herald: "It's as though you have a clogged artery, it's severely rusted. We don't want it to get to the point where people don't have water pressure."
