Applied DNA Sciences Launces Line of Cash Security Inks

New Cashield system approved for use in European Union.

Stony Brook-based Applied DNA Sciences announced on Thursday the launch of a new line of cash security inks which permanently stain bank notes to allow law enforcement agencies to identify stolen cash.

The new product, called Cashield, has already been certified for use in the European Union by the Laboratoire Nationale de Métrologie et d'Essais.

Whereas the company's previous product, AzSure, consisted of a blue security ink, the new system offers red, violet, teal, indigo, and green inks which are detectable using a simple UV light. Its solvent system is nonreactive and provides a stable environment for the implementation of another Applied DNA Sciences security product, SigNature DNA markers.

"Cashield fills a substantial void in cash handling," said Dr. James Hayward, CEO of Applied DNA Sciences. "It eliminates the need for unsafe chemicals, while providing a long-awaited performance for wash-out resistance."
