Ward Melville's Kay Drafted in 29th Round by Mets

Good news comes Anthony Kay's way following the baseball team's loss in the state semifinals.

Eyes have been on Anthony Kay all season, and for good reason.

Newsday reported late Saturday that the New York Mets drafted Kay, Ward Melville's lefty ace, in the 29th round.

"It's great, and now we have to decide what to do. Do I go to UConn or sign with the Mets? It's pretty cool to realize a dream and have this opportunity," Kay told Newsday.

His high school coach, Lou Petrucci, said Kay holds 17 pitching records at Ward Melville, which won its first-ever county and Long Island championships this year thanks in part to Kay's arm.

"We are so happy for him," Petrucci said. "He did everything to help turn Ward Melville into something special."
