Cops: Stony Brook Student Ran Drug Operation from Dorm Room

Lola Tan pleaded not guilty Tuesday to seven drug charges.

A Stony Brook University student pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to seven drug-related charges she faces after police say they found marijuana, hallucinogens, drug paraphernalia and more than $35,000 in cash in her dorm room, according to a Newsday report.

Lola Tan, a senior from Elmhurst, Queens, who is double-majoring in economics and psychology, is charged with second-degree, third-degree, fifth-degree and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. She also faces two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

Newsday also reported the Suffolk County District Attorney's office set bail at $75,000 or $150,000 bond and set a bail source hearing to determine the origin of any money used to post bail.

According to the report, Suffolk police arrested Tan on Monday afternoon after university police and fire marshals responded to a fire alarm in her dormitory building, Lauterbur Hall. University police chief Robert Lenahan said they found drugs in plain sight and an open safe containing close to $36,000 in cash.
