A Hero's Welcome Home for Stony Brook Navy Reservist

David Fink returns home from a tour in Afghanistan on Thursday morning.

U.S. Navy Let. David Fink received a hero's welcome home Thursday morning as he returned from a nearly six-month tour in Afghanistan.

Friends, family, Hometown Heroes and Patriot Guard Riders saluted Fink, a Stony Brook resident, as he arrived at Islip MacArthur Airport on a 10:45 a.m. flight. He carried his five-month old son, reunited with his wife, Jackie, and older son.

Fink, a Navy reservist with the JAG corps, was recalled to active duty in January. He left for Afghanistan when his youngest son was only five weeks old, Jackie said in email to Patch.

Fink was formally greeted by a representative of Islip Supervisor Tom Croci and the town board members.

The Patriot Guard Riders then gave the Fink family an honorary escort from the airport to their home.
