The Delight of Movement: Six Kinetic Sculptors OPENING RECEPTION

COME TO OUR FREE WINE AND CHEESE RECEPTION TO CELEBRATE THE OPENING OF THIS STUNNING EXHIBITION!

Since the time of the cave artists, sculptors have
attempted to capture our interest by depicting motion. The six artists in this
exhibition curated by collector, Phil Palmedo go beyond suggesting movement.
Their work is about movement.

Modern kinetic art originates with American folk
art- moving figures and whirligigs, cranks and wind up springs… then combines
with the precepts of modernist sculpture: abstraction, materials, and movement.
Movement was identified with modernity, the machine and social progress. Many
of the works in this show have natural, spontaneous qualities. Others have
coordinated machine aesthetics and move to the “poetry of mathematics”.

Many say that the duty of art is to ask questions,
to be socially relevant, not made to please us. But in this exhibition, Palmedo
says that the questions of what a work means is “pushed aside by the sheer
enjoyment of watching the flowing motions of colorful pieces of metal…kinetic
sculpture grabs our attention and holds on”.

Abstraction, Whimsy, Rhythm, Spontaneous,
Mechanical, Technology, Imagination, Assemblage, Composition, Line, Sound,
Minimal, Graceful. The exhibition will be a delight for the viewer.
