Freelance writer and photographer, Kyle Reitan began his journey in the journalism field back in middle school. He says it was a mentoring program that he was part of that changed his life. In an effort to promote the mentoring program, Reitan reached out to his (then) only local newspaper, The Times Beacon Record. The editor told him to write an article, get some quotes, snap some pix and send the package in. His niche was found and intentions of becoming a reporter somewhere were intended. Today, Reitan has been published in renown puublications including Newsday, The North Shore Sun, Perpetual Toxins magazine, The Long Island Ultimate Athlete magazine, The Village Beacon Record, The Village Times Herald, The Times of Smithtown, and The Port Times Record. Reitan currently holds press credentials from the New York Press Association and the Suffolk County Police Department. In addition to his contribution to these publications, Reitan has interned for the former LOVE 96.1 radio which is now Long Island's Country 96.1 and 103.9 WRCN. When a community oriented station was formed a few years ago, Reitan was introduced to alternative rock and his new position as Public Service Director. It's been a couple of years since the station vacated the airwaves. Presently, Reitan is a Communication Arts student at the New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, New York campus. So Ho in New York City is the backdrop of his photo seen in The New York Times Magazine as a student advertising NYIT. On his free time, Reitan serves as a volunteer EMT and Lieutenant in the Miller Place Fire Department Emergency Medical Services company. He received a top responder award for answering 484 total alarms in 2009. Reitan, an intern at WCBS 880 News says, "you need to start enjoying life immediately. The longer you wait, the older you get."
