Karen Romanelli Ciardullo knew she wanted to be a writer by the time she was 8 years old. She still remembers the look on her teacher's face when the rest of the kids in her 2nd grade class said they wanted to be a nurse, teacher or fireman and Karen said she wanted to be an "author."

After majoring in Creative Writing at LIU/Southampton College and graduating with a degree in English/Journalism at St. John's University her writing/editorial career began as Assistant Editor of her hometown newspaper, Bellmore Life. Broadcast journalism came next when she took a position at CBS Television Network  and then later researching and pitching stories for the ABC News program 20/20.  But magazine publishing was where she wanted to be and her next job was Editorial Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief of Ladies' Home Journal & More magazines.

As a freelance writer Karen has written and been published numerous times for Newsday, specifically for Newsday's LI Moment column. She has also had a personal essay published in Parent's & Children.

Karen works at Stony Brook University, has written two plays, has taken the Southampton Writers Conference twice, has started a young adult novel and is the mother of two of the funniest kids. Her one regret is never having the patience to learn how to knit when her mother tried to teach her.  Karen lives in what she considers the best place to raise a family, Stony Brook.
