Log in to Patch and answer in the comments.
Now that the cooler weather is starting to set in, and the days are getting shorter, it's apparent that autumn has arrived. While that means fall traditions like the Apple Festival and Kiwanis Duck Race, it's also a perfect time to reflect on the summer that just passed. Sunday's question of the day asks: What's your favorite summer memory in Three Village? Log in to Patch and answer in the form of a comment below.

Depending on who you talk to, parking at the beach is either simple or impossible.
As anyone who tried getting a parking spot at West Meadow Beach on Independence Day can tell you, parking at West Meadow Beach can sometimes be tough. Patch asked local beachgoers about the parking situation and for some tips the best time to go to the beach. How easy or hard is it to park at West Meadow Beach? Michelle, Port Jefferson: “It’s fairly easy to get a spot at any time.” Emily, Stony Brook: “It’s hard. There’s a lot of cars and it’s really slow to get [in the parking lot] with just one life guard [letting cars in.] Madaline, Port Jefferson: “It’s pretty easy. If they made more parking it would take away from the beach.” If you think parking is difficult or terrible, what do you think can be done to improve parking? Emily, Stony …

Teams with JVC Broadcasting to produce shows at Amphitheater.
The Town of Brookhaven announced its summer concert series last week. All concerts will take place at the Brookhaven Amphiteather. As part of the agreement, JVC Broadcasting will contract out and pay for all performers, production (sound and lighting) in-house security, and all print, television, radio and internet advertising, according to the town. JVC will also contract with a major concessionaire to provide food and beverage service at each event. The Town will receive a guaranteed fee of $12,000 each for five events, and $2.50 for every ticket sold, the town said. “The Brookhaven Amphitheater is an asset to the Town and we are happy to be working with JVC Broadcasting to provide a wide variety of great family entertainment for our …

What are you looking forward to when the weather warms up?
There are only 53 days until the first day of spring. But who's counting? ...We are. Just like we're counting all 15.5 inches of snow the National Weather Service reported as the official total for East Setauket, and 13.1 inches for Stony Brook, for Wednesday night's blizzard. And we're counting on these five things to look forward to when the weather finally warms up. Get your lacrosse stick ready. Once the snow clears and subfreezing temperatures subside, Three Village's lacrosse lovers will be able to emerge from their indoor training sessions and breathe some fresh air outside on the field. Adoring fans of the Seawolves, Patriots, and other local teams will smear sunscreen on their faces to cheer for their teams in the stands. Just you…
How many days 'till spring?
It wasn't so long ago that folks were complaining about heat waves of record proportions – temperatures so high they affected local agriculture and drove people indoors to escape the heat. Now, the warmth of the summer sun would certainly be a welcome change for many who are sick of all this snow. Perhaps a look back at some of Three Village's sunnier days will warm our spirits?

Young athletes learn the basics and improve their skills at Ward Melville's Patriot Pride sports camp.
The name of the game at summer sports camps is fun. And it's easy to tell when young athletes are having a good time. "You know they're having fun when it's time to leave and everyone's like, 'Aw, it's time to go already?'" said Jerry Vessichio, who coached track and field at the Patriot Pride Summer Sports Camp at Ward Melville High School. "You know things are going in the right direction when that's happening." The Patriot Pride camp, held June 28 through July 2, is one of many summer sports camps on Long Island. The camp featured Ward Melville varsity and junior varsity coaches — with help from college and high school athletes — instructing students in grades 4 through 8 in several sports, including football, lacrosse, fencing, …

Now that summer is in full swing, you're probably feeling the heat and looking for ways to entertain yourself on those lazy days. If you're like most people, you're looking to do it on the cheap. Don't sacrifice fun, flavor or quality. Below we've compiled twenty things to do around town for about $20 or less. Drink some summery wine. The folks at Mora's Wines located in Setauket suggest either a 2009 Croix de Basson ($14.99) as a great rosé or a Long Island bottle of 2007 Pellegrini Chardonnay ($13.99). See Long Island from a different frame of view. Gallery North in Setauket has a full slate on deck for the summer with shows featuring local artists and one celebrating Long Island's seashores. Admission is free. Beat the heat and see a …

Local merchants suggest hot items for before, during, and after your Independence Day party.
Across town, as Three Village residents geared up for Independence Day, local business owners shared what's hot for holiday parties this weekend. "Wine" Down Richard Mora, owner of Mora's Fine Wine and Spirits, recommended Muga Dry Spanish Rosé ($12.99), which he said should be served very cold and goes with everything. He also suggested a local wine, Jamesport's sauvignon blanc (regularly $18.99, on sale for $16.14). Then there's the Four Vines Biker red zinfandel ($23.99), which will complement grilled foods well. "It's an all-American wine, and it's an all-American holiday," said Mora, who hosts wine tastings every Saturday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the shop. Eat it Up Steak, ribs and chicken may be no-brainers for July 4, but Matt Lin of …

A assumed (wrongly) that once the cottages came down, they would expand the parking. It's a shame not to have access to a beach during peak season. The least they could do would be to extend on the road parking without ticketing beach-goers. With the amount of taxes we pay, limited beach parking is inexcusable. The environmental ranger -- what a joke! Like we really one. The piping plover seem to…   more ›
