Founded in 1939, the WMHO preserves and furthers Ward Melville's original vision of combining history and natural beauty to enrich the lives of Three Village residents.
Among the activities sponsored by the WMHO are summer concerts, holiday festivals, and a wide variety of educational exhibits and programs. The organization maintains an Educational and Cultural Center located in Stony Brook Village.
The WMHO also maintains a number of historical properties throughout the Three Village area, including the Thompson House (c. 1710), the Hawkins-Mount House (c. 1725), and the buildings which currently house the Long Island Museum of Art, History and Carriages.
