The LI State Veterans Home is a skilled nursing home for honorably discharged veterans, their spouses, and parents…More who have lost a child in the line of duty.</p> <p>It is a 24-hour care facility with 350 beds, along with a 55-bed dementia unit and a 55-bed respiratory unit. The LI State Veterans Home also offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, and short term rehab, with five full-time physicians double-board-certified in both geriatrics and internal medicine. It also has an adult day care program available, where registrants are picked up from their homes and receive on-site care between 9:00am and 3:00pm. Residents are also able to take advantage of many programs and activities at the home, including computer classes, photography and gardening clubs, trips to baseball games and the Belmont Racetrack, fishing trips and more.</p> <p>Affiliated with Stony Brook University, the LI State Veterans Home is one of five New York State veterans' homes and is the only one to be run by an academic institution.</p>
