Teens Indicted in Relation to String of Burglaries

Five teens were indicted this week in relation to six incidents, including five burglaries, spanning from Selden to Miller Place to Setauket.

A handful of teens were indicted this week after being accused of burglarizing a rash of residential homes from Selden to Miller Place to Setauket, including one on Julia Lane. Suffolk County Police announced on May 3 that they had arrested four individuals after pulling them over on Black Locust Avenue in Setauket. An indictment unsealed this week added a fifth teen - the twin brother of one defendant. According to the office of District Attorney Thomas Spota, the Julia Lane home was the last of five homes which were broken into by the group. Two of the teens reportedly attempted to burglarize one more in Selden. Crimes Nearby: Weapons Charges, Drug Arrests in Port Jeff

Joel Almanzar, 27, of Port Jefferson Station, was arrested at his home on Winston Lane in Port Jefferson Station on May 3 at about 9:38 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a handgun. Ronald Hughes Jr., 43, of Farmingville, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. on May 11 in Port Jefferson and charged with criminal sale of a firearm. Police say that Hughes allegedly sold a pistol for money on Nesconset Highway. Three people were arrested at the Long Island Railroad station Port Jefferson Station on May 3 at about 7:20 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. All of them were found sitting in a 2011 Audi. Kristie Cleary, 21, of East Setauket, was charged with possessing cocaine and pills not prescribed to her. William…

Crime Report: Burglary, DWI Charges Among Recent Arrests

John Maggio, 20, of Stony Brook, was arrested May 8 in Setauket and charged with second-degree burglary. Maggio allegedly enered a home on Balin Avenue in Centereach and stole property. Christopher O'Rourke, 25, of West Islip, was arrested May 11 in Stony Brook and charged with DWI with previous conviction in 10 years. Police stopped O'Rourke after he ran a red light at the intersection of N. Country Road and Route 25A, and was allegedly found to be intoxicated. Jeffrey Fair, 25, of Ronkonkoma, was arrested May 11 and charged with first-offense DWI. District Attorney: E. Setauket Burglary Suspects Traumatized Dog

The four suspects police say are responsible for burglarizing multiple homes also harmed the family dog, Newsday reports.

The Suffolk District Attorney has said the four suspects arrested last week in connection with a burglary in East Setauket also traumatized the family's dog by spraying it with a fire extinguisher, Newsday reported Friday. The latest allegation came after reports that the suspects – Colleen Elam of Selden, Maurice Jones of Centereach, Darnell Lofton of Middle Island, and Sion Sosa of Centereach – had vandalized the home they were attempting to rob. Newsday reported they clogged the drains in the house and turned on the faucets, which eventually flooded the house and collapsed a ceiling. Crimes Nearby: Assault, Trespassing Among Recent Arrests

PORT JEFFERSON Yan Rodriguez, 21, of Coram, was arrested in Port Jefferson Station on April 28 and charged with third-degree assault. Police said Rodriguez punched someone in the nose on West Broadway in Port Jefferson, causing bleeding and swelling. The victim was transported to Mather Hospital. Anthony Gugliotti Jr., 51, of Patchogue, was arrested in Port Jefferson Station on April 28 around 7:30 p.m. and charged with trespassing. According to police, Gugliotti entered the Terryville Fire Department station without permission. On May 2, someone reported a grand larceny at Graceful Rose Restaurant on West Broadway. 87-Year-Old Woman Dies in Car Found Underwater in Port Jeff

Police identified victim as Anne Murray, of Port Jefferson Station.

An 87-year old Port Jefferson Station woman was found dead in a car that had been submerged in the water off the Brookhaven Town docks on West Broadway in Port Jefferson Thursday morning. After a 911 caller tipped off police at 6:43 a.m. that a car was in Port Jefferson Harbor with only the roof visible, police discovered Anne Murray, 87, of Brook Lane inside. She was the only occupant of the white Toyota Corolla. Murray was transported to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson where she was pronounced dead. Police say that they do not know yet how the car got into the water. Suffolk County homicide detectives are investigating the death. On Tuesday, police reported that there was an attempted residential burglary in the area, requiring police to search for the suspect.

UPDATE May 8, 2012 – According to a police report, the police activity in the vicinity of Gelinas Junior High was a search for a suspect who had attempted to burglarize a home in the area. Kimberly Buscher, 33, of Ridge, was arrested April 28 in Setauket and charged with petty larceny. Buscher is accused of taking a comforter from Kohl's in Rocky Point without paying for it, and was later arrested on Route 347 in Setauket. Hayden Santos, 18, of Setauket, was arrested April 29 in Setauket and charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon. Wesley Skiffington, 22, of Selden, was arrested May 2 in Stony Brook and charged with first-offense DWI.
