The entire city of new york is run by ONE superintendent. Trim the fat, as a previous poster soRead More eloquently stated. We all know how fiscal budgets work. "Spend it so we don't lose it next year"...

I voted no... If you, the B of E do not stop your current path, there will be no more taxpayers leftRead More to pay for the schools as we all get priced out. Just because you kept it "under the cap" doesn't make it right. Many of us taxpayers haven't seen a raise in years, yet you continue to raise taxes every year. Even 2, 3 or 4 % is a lot, compounded over the years. Do more with less like the rest of us have to do. And don't take it out on Teachers. They are your most important commodity. There are many ways to cut expenses. Did you really need to install LED signs in front of the schools? How many administrators do you really need? The secretary to the assistant of the assistant to the dean? Come on now. And I can only imagine the shady deals with vendors of custodial supplies, construction materials. The give backs and family members being "taken care of". The corruption is what is costing us so much money, not the Teachers... Between the School District and the University I can't even imagine why anyone continues to live in this town. One last thing for my rant- You should consider tiered taxation. Why should the 80 year old retiree or someone without children pay the same share as someone who chooses to have 3, 4, 5 children in school. Charge more to those actually using the school. Everyone should pay a little, but it's not right to monetarily rape those that do not receive any benefit from you. My 2 cents, thanks for listening...

"State-mandated contributions" to the pensions ? Of course, how else will we pay for theseRead More rediculouly generous pensions?

Christine, thanks for the reply. It would be interesting to ask if these certified teachers areRead More going to recieve the same benefits (medical, pensions, tenure) as regular TVCSD teachers because if thats the case then i would find it very hard to believe that this program would be truly self supporting. Lets face it, they aren't going to charge more than some of the private pre ki programs in the area, because then they wouldn't be competitive, and thats what they would have to do to be self supporting. So how can they make that claim.

Disgusted: we're working on a full story on the child care idea. To clarify: According to thisRead More survey, the pre-k program would be tuition-based and self-supporting. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3vpreksurvey

I'm so confused. How is it that just yesterday we had a bduget vote that cut teachers and electivesRead More and today I get a phone call in regard to the district wanting to start a pre-k program. Are they serious? First, where it the money coming from? Second, why should we all pay for pre-k intstruction? Thats the responsiblity of the parents. Not to mention that all that really is, is free child care. Thats ridiculous.
Board vice president Jonathan Kornreich, president Dr. Jeffrey Kerman, and superintendent Cheryl Pedisich react to the news that the budget passed.
Disgusted! May 22, 2013 at 07:54 pm
Can someone please tell me why I just got a phone call from TVCSD regarding a new pre-k program theyRead More want to implement as of 2014? Just yesterday, I was under the impression we didnt have enough money to keep 58 teachers, and had to cut electives live Student Govt. But now theres money for a new pre-k program, which will be run by certified teachers? Unbelieveable! If parents want their kids to go to pre-k then they should pay for it, like everyone else has for years and years in this district. Its not the communities responsiblity to provide this service. Lets face it, everyone is going to jump on this bandwagon. its free child care. I'm sick of this nonsense. Can't wait to get the heck out of TV

Mrs Pedisich...Before you go holding hands and singing Kumbaya with your family idea, I would likeRead More to point out that apathy played a far greater role than support of your budget..a none vote does not mean a yes vote. 3VSD had 4939 total votes cast and there are 34,000 registered voters and votes cast were down from last years 6267. (Shameful that more folks are unwilling to participate!!!) As for those staff members that were 'excessed' at this time, I would love to see how you wont excess another 100 more next year...do you think benefits will be going down? We cut people and increase taxes so that who was left got a raise???Does this make sense??? You have over 200 people earning in excess of $100K and BENEFITS REPRESENT MORE THAN 50% OF THE INSTRUCTION BUDGET and BENEFITS went up by 12.9%..SO HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY EXPECT THIS TO CHANGE WITHOUT TAKING ACTION????? Unless you and the BOE deal with the union contract, you will have even LESS members at your 3VSD Christmas party and our kids will continue to face further program cuts because your leadership is failing to deal with this bloated organization.

I could not hear the language spoken, but I did hear it through my closed windows.... And it wasRead More done by 10. I can live with that. However the Saturday night concert lasted until 5am Sunday. It was not advertised on any event calendar... I thought this one running so late was ridiculous.

Good lord, our wonderful neighbor once again did something that was inconsiderate to theRead More neighborhood around the university? Say it isn't so! I can't believe my eyes... You mean the traffic, boarding houses and takeover of adjoining land, plus building a hotel 1 mile away from an existing hotel wasn't the end? This must be propaganda by the locals, the college has assured me that they care about the three village area and I believe them! Want to buy a bridge in Brooklyn?

This district is a joke...they tell the kids, here are the classes we are cutting out and IF theRead More budget passes, we may reinstate the classes...but if the budget fails, MORE classes will be cut....QUITE A QUALITY EDUCATION WE ARE OFFERING OUR KIDS WHILE THE STAFF GETS A 6% RAISE! THE UNION HAS TO GO! VOTE NO!!!!!

Ohairs April 19, 2013 at 01:01 pm
So tell me then. When and where are the teachers contracts negotiated? Why are we not privy to this?Read More I have absolutely NO problem with their salaries. We've been blessed with caring and outstanding teachers so far. And I believe you get what you pay for. I DO however take issue with paying for benefits and pensions especially if you're getting a 6+++++ figures in salary. And tenure? Who's guaranteed a job in today's world? Changes do need to take place. Just who is going to be the adults here remain to be seen.
Disgusted! April 19, 2013 at 10:05 am
I will be voting NO. I know its biting my nose to spite my face but I really think its time aRead More message is sent. If the teachers don't want to help out then its time to cut more of them and make them pay (one way or the other). If they would have come forward and made concessions I would have voted Yes. I am sick at how rudely the Union has behaved. They didn't even try for a second to help out this community. So then I can't possibly help them by voting through the budget and giving them their increases. I realize that they will get their increases regardless, but then cut more teachers and make the hoggish ones who stay behind work harder for their money!!!! At the end of the day, if the students don't pass their Regents, ElA's and Math Standards then it will fall on their shoulders!!!!!! And hopefully with the new evaluations, some of them will now lose their jobs due to underperformance. Too Bad, welcome to the rest of the World!!!! They really need for reality to bit them in the %$#
