Weekend Guide: Strawberry Flavored Fun, Memorial Day Parades, Museum Open

Patch picks for weekend fun.

While some places in town such as the library are closed on Memorial Day, others such as the Long Island Museum will be open for business. It’s also opening weekend for town beaches and a host of other springtime and outdoorsy events are on the table too.

Food & Family

  • Head to Benner’s Farm on Saturday to pick fresh strawberries and make delicious goodies like jam, cupcakes and ice cream. For ages 4 and up; $40 per person. Details here.
  • The weekly parent/toddler workshop at Emma S. Clark Memorial Library has two sessions, 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., and will feature a nutrition theme this week.
Outdoors
  • Did you know it’s opening weekend at West Meadow Beach? Lifeguards will be on duty between 10:15 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
  • The annual East Setauket Memorial Day parade kicks off Monday at the Village Green in Setauket at 11 a.m. and runs down Main Street and east on Route 25A.
  • The annual Stony Brook Memorial Day parade kicks off Monday at about 8:30 a.m. at the Stony Brook Fire Department in the village center, and runs around the village past the Hercules Pavilion and to Christian Avenue.
Arts & Culture
  • The Long Island Museum is open for its regular hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will also be open on Memorial Day. Click here for its hours and exhibits.
  • The Three Village Historical Society presents a walking tour: “Walking Through History with Farmer and Spy Abraham Woodhull,” which starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Caroline Church Carriage Shed ($3–$5).
  • Gallery North’s latest show, “The Delight of Movement: Six Kinetic Sculptors,” is on display through May 31. Weekend museum hours: Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Gallery North will also offer an “ArTalk” with the show’s curator about the moving sculptures at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

  • The Comsewogue for Students Foundation presents its annual carnival at JFK Middle School in Port Jefferson Station, starting at 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
