Volunteer Roundup: Get a Haircut for a Cause, Help a Local PTA, or Attend a Fashion Show

Five ways that you can volunteer in and around Three Village this week.

Whether you participate in a a fundraiser to raise money for the Sunrise Fund, help your local PTA, or volunteer at the brand new children's museum, you'll be living the spirit of volunteerism in Three Village. If you are part of a group that is in need of volunteers, please let us know by adding a "Volunteers Needed" announcement or sending us an email.

  • Kids Helping Kids: A Cut for a Cure at

On Sunday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the stylists at Finale Salon will be offering a fun filled day of hairstyling for children, from which all proceeds and donations will go to the Sunrise Fund for Stony Brook University Medical Center Pediatric Oncology Department to help children and families afflicted with pediatric cancer. Services included are hair cutting and styling for $25 and $10 for colored extensions. There will be face painting, prizes, giveaways and raffles for the kids to enjoy.   • Annual Spring Musicale,

On Sunday, May 1 at 4 p.m. the Stony Brook Community Church is having its annual Spring Musicale. Attending the performance will support the church's efforts to rebuild the chimes of the Moeller Pipe Organ in the church as a memorial to Carol Dettmering. Carol, the church secretary for 30 years, passed away this year. For sponsorships, tickets and other information, call the church office at 631-751-0574.

The Minnesauke PTA is looking for volunteers to help plan Minnesauke's Annual Multicultural Festival on Friday May, 13 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. They need volunteers to represent different countries and to help with the festivities. On Wednesday, April 27 at 7:00 p.m., the Madonna Heights Ladies Auxiliary is hosting its annual fashion show at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. Tickets are available at the door, raffles and gift baskets will be available. All proceeds go directly to benefit Madonna Heights Services, a division of SCO Family Services.  Madonna Heights is based in Dix Hills and provides assistance to adolescents, women and families all across Long Island to help them overcome the effects of poverty, neglect and abuse. The Ladies Auxiliary is always in need of volunteers; contact Jackie Kos at 516-420-8646 for more information.

The Maritime Explorium is celebrating its grand opening on May 14. Children can interact and learn at this hands-on discovery center. The museum is seeking volunteers for its Family Fun days, every Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Shifts of a 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. are available.
