Teen Ice Skater from S. Setauket Places in National Competition

Griffin Schwab, 16, and his partner Darbie Burke, 12, placed second in the intermediate pairs division at the U.S. Figure Skating National Championships, Newsday reports.

A 16-year-old figure skater from South Setauket and his 12-year-old skating partner from Ronkonkoma have placed second in the intermediate pairs division at the U.S. Figure Skating National Championships, according to a report published in Newsday.

Griffin Schwab and his partner Darbie Burke made the jump to intermediate from the juvenile division in 2012, and scored a 59.69 thanks to sticking a few lifts in their routine. They told Newsday they hope to compete at the novice level later this year.

"It was definitely a thrill to have a good skate and just be the top of your country at your skill level. For the lifts, it's a little bit of conditioning and strength, and also, what a lot of people don't realize is that it's also a lot of work for the girl because she has to keep her body strong and stay balanced," Schwab said.

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!
Reality Check May 15, 2013 at 08:01 pm
Last year we lost 20 staff...this year we are losing over 50 meanwhile the remaining staff isRead More getting a 6% raise...the UNION is eating itself and ruining our school and the BOE is not dealing with the situation..the benefits are up nearly 13% this year...what do you think will happen next year?
