Ward Melville Grad Earns Cross Country Honor
Alex Fitzgerald named Lehigh University's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.
Ward Melville grad and Lehigh University freshman Alexander Fitzgerald continues to set the pace in running.
Fitzgerald was named Lehigh's Cross Country Rookie of the Week after placing sixth in Saturday's Lehigh-Lafayette dual with a time of 27:03:90.
Fitzgerald, of Setauket, was a Ward Melville standout in track and field. The former lacrosse player hit the ground running having won the Division I Steeplechase title last year, after having run the race only once before.
This was Fitzgerald's first time running the 8K race. He was the top freshman finisher in the field, helping him to earn his first Rookie of the Week honor and land his team a victory.
