Ward Melville Field Hockey Upsets Smithtown East
Ward Melville, seeking to defend its 2010 county championship, pulls out a double OT win on Monday.
Third-seeded Ward Melville pulled off a 4-3 double-overtime win over No. 2 Smithtown East on Monday in a Class A field hockey county semifinal.
Coming into the game, Ward Melville (14-4) and Smithtown East (15-3) had split a pair of regular season matchups.
Vanessa Pryor, Kelsey Catalano, Kim Geiger and Mary Brigid Coughlan scored goals for Ward Melville, which will play for its fifth straight county title on Thursday against No. 1 Sachem East. Ward Melville has lost twice to Sachem East this season.
