Three Village Wildcats in the Running for Football Grant

Club teams need your votes to win.

The Three Village Wildcats, a youth football club, need your help in winning the "Guardians of the Gridiron" award, which would yield a $5,000 grant for the club.

The contest is being sponsored by NRG, an energy company that has partnered with the New York Giants, along with USA Football and its "Heads Up Football" program, which emphasizes safety during games and practices.

"Winning this contest would validate all of the hard work that our coaches have put into the Heads Up tackling program," club president Jason Brittman said in an email to Patch. "We strive to teach our children to play the game armed with proper tackling techniques that will help keep them safe on the field. If we are lucky enough to win this contest, all proceeds will go to upgrading the children's shoulder pads and helmets."

The Three Village Wildcats club consists of about 200 students and 50 USA Football certified coaches, with a season that runs from July to November.

The club is also hoping to raise $10,000 over the next few seasons to go towards the creation of a combination concession stand/equipment storage unit.
