Three Village Scoreboard: Liotine Leads Bears Over Mercy

Ward Melville football also records a win.

Don Liotine proved Saturday that he can do pretty much anything a football player can be asked to do. The Stony Brook junior caught a touchdown pass, ran for two scores, and threw a 52-yard touchdown pass when he stepped into the game as quarterback to help The Stony Brook School beat Mercy, 43-35, on Saturday. Liotine totaled 217 all purpose yards and had nine tackles on defense for the Bears, who are off to a 2-0 start.

Wyatt Piazza also spent time at quarterback, throwing 4-6 for 120 yards and two touchdowns, and Andrew White added a touchdown on an 80-yard kickoff return.

Late in the game Mercy pulled off a successful onsides kick, but the Stony Brook defense made a successful 4th down stop on its own 20 yard line with 1:15 left in the game to secure the Bears' victory.

Ward Melville 30, Brentwood 20: Frank Lucatuorto scored on runs of 25 yards and 12 yards to help Ward Melville (1-1) earn its first win of the season. Lucatuorto rushed 15 times for 130 yards in the game, and Brendon Hegarty rushed 20 times for 117 yards and had one interception.
