Stony Brook Women Advance to Conference Final

Demmianne Cook shatters school record for goals in 18-4 win over Vermont on Friday.

Senior midfielder Demmianne Cook scored seven goals and became the all-time leading scorer for Stony Brook University in the team's 18-4 win over Vermont in the America East lacrosse semifinals on Friday afternoon.

Cook's seven goals gave her 151 for her career despite playing only two seasons at SBU; she surpassed Kaitlin Leggio's mark of 150 goals scored between 2006 and 2009.

Senior attacker Claire Petersen added a goal and three assists, and senior attacker Janine Hillier added four goals and one assist. In goal, junior Frankie Caridi made 10 saves, setting a record for most stops in an America East Championship contest.

Head coach Joe Spallina said he was proud of the team.

"We went from down 2-1 to up 8-2 in about five minutes of lacrosse," he said. "The team did not like being down, and we put together a run, played our game and came away with the win.”

The win is Stony Brook's 10th straight win this season. The team is 15-2 overall and will face Albany on Sunday at noon in the championship game at LaValle Stadium – a rematch of last year's conference final, from which Albany emerged the victor and earned its second straight conference title. Stony Brook has previously defeated Albany this season, winning 9-2 on March 30.

The game on Sunday will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3 and via the WatchESPN app.
