Stony Brook Star Brenton to Play Pro Basketball in Japan

Tommy Brenton, owner of four school records, is one of 15 Seawolves who have signed pro basketball contracts.

Another Seawolf is headed to the pros: Tommy Brenton, who led his team to three America East regular season championships and three NIT appearances and holds four school records, will play professional basketball in Japan.

Brenton, from Columbia, Md., signed a contract with Link Tochighi Brex, a team located about 80 miles outside of Tokyo, Stony Brook University recently announced. Brenton joins 14 other Seawolves to sign professional basketball contracts, including eight others under the watch of head coach Steve Pikiell.

"Tommy made an impact on the Stony Brook men's basketball program like no other student-athlete," Pikiell said in a statement. "He exemplifies everything we hope to develop in a student-athlete; he competed hard on the court and helped us win championships, he earned not only his bachelor's degree, but also his master's degree and now he's a pro. We wish him well as he moves to Japan to begin a new and exciting chapter of his career."

Earlier this year Brenton was named the 2013 Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year in the NCAA for his play with the Seawolves.

Brenton holds Seawolves Division 1 records in rebounds (1,115), steals (220), assists (405) and games played (127).
