With a 7-2 win over LSU on Sunday night, Stony Brook is headed to the College World Series in Omaha for the first time.
Sophomore Frankie Vanderka tossed a complete game three-hitter for the Seawolves, who "shocked the world," as the saying went from fans on Twitter. The Seawolves' offense hammered LSU for 15 hits en route to the victory.
Stony Brook leapt to a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning, when Maxx Tissenbaum, Kevin Krause and Steven Goldstein each chipped in two-out, run-scoring hits.
The Seawolves are the first America East team to reach the College World Series. The College World Series begins June 14 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
