Seawolves Run Over American International, 31-14
Brock Jackolski and Miguel Maysonet run for 328 yards in a huge home opening win.
Following last weekend's crushing defeat to South Florida, Stony Brook had the obvious task of surmounting a victory in its home opener Saturday night.
Stud halfbacks Brock Jackolski and Miguel Maysonet, both transfers from Hofstra University, led the Seawolves in the absence of starter Edwin Gowins, who was sidelined with a strained abdomen. Jackolski and Maysonet linked up for over 300 rushing yards as Stony Brook defeated American International, 31-14, before 4,291 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
"We needed to show Stony Brook what we can do," said Jackolski, who had 168 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns.

The first touchdown of the game came with a little over three minutes left in the first quarter. Maysonet's 22-yard run set up a 35-yard touchdown pass from Michael Coulter to wide receiver Matt Brevi.
"We're lucky we have a lot of great backs," Maysonet said. "We can interchange our running backs and still come out with the same results."

American International quarterback Rob Parent and his offense were shut down by Arin West and the Seawolves' defense in the second quarter. West had seven tackles, leading to a team total of 52 tackles, and only allowing 307 yards of total offense.
With the score standing at 10-7 heading into the end of the half, the Seawolves' offense started to pick up steam. Jackolski and the offense had run down the field into Yellow Jackets territory where they finally found the end zone with an 11-yard run from Jackolski.
Jackolski, who was a player of legend at William Floyd High School where he won the Hansen Award as Suffolk County's top high school player his senior year, scored again late in the third quarter with a powerful cutback move up the middle to score from 18 yards out, giving his team a commanding 24-7 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Maysonet, another Hansen winner out of Riverhead, took advantage of a tiring defense early in the fourth when he sprinted up the left side of the field, leaving all defensive opponents in his wake for a 48-yard rushing score. With that touchdown, the Seawolves (1-1) had a 31-7 lead.
Coulter threw for 128 yards and one touchdown on 9-of-13 passing. Jordan Gush caught three passes for 48 yards and Brevi caught three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. Maysonet rushed 160 yards on 20 carries with one touchdown. American International fell to 0-2.
Stony Brook head coach Chuck Priore said he was proud of his team for the way they played.
"From the sidelines it looked like we played hard," he said. "We did make some mistakes that held us from the end zone a couple more times."
The Seawolves hit the road next weekend when they visit Brown, which has yet to play this season.
