Seawolves Headed to NCAA Super Regional

Baseball team continues its hot streak with a 10-6 win over University of Central Florida on Monday night.

Trailing by three in the fourth inning, Stony Brook exploded for five runs to pull ahead for good in the NCAA Coral Gables regional final and finished with a 10-6 win over University of Central Florida on Monday night.

The win sets up a best-of-three series against LSU (46-16) in the NCAA's Baton Rouge Super Regional starting Friday at LSU.

Willie Carmona went 4-for-5 with a two-run double during that five-run rally, and added a solo home run in the seventh to help the Seawolves stay on top. Carmona was named the Regional's most outstanding player, finishing with two home runs, 10 RBI, and an average of .523.

Pat Cantwell had a two-run single in the fifth inning for the Seawolves. Tyler Johnson picked up the win after striking out five and allowing four runs – including two home runs by UCF's DJ Hicks – in 6.2 innings.

Stony Brook (50-12), winner of a school- and conference-record 50 wins this season, was the No. 4 seed in the regional tournament. UCF (45-17) was the No. 2 seed.
