Seawolves Advance in FCS Playoffs with Win over Villanova

Stony Brook football team wins first-round game on Saturday.

After a dominant first half, in which the Stony Brook offense controlled time of possession and the defense shut down Villanova's, the Seawolves pulled off a 20-10 win on Saturday at LaValle Stadium in the first round of the NCAA FCS playoffs.

Miguel Maysonet totaled 160 yards and two touchdowns and Marcus Coker rushed for a season high of 107 yards for the Seawolves, who are 10-2 and enjoying their best season in program history.

The defense also shined too, with two sacks, two interceptions, and consistent pressure on the Villanova quarterback. Christian Ricard made eight tackles for the Seawolves.

"We spent all of our time worrying about winning and nothing else," coach Chuck Priore said in a statement. "How we would accomplish that was by keeping Villanova's offense off the field. I thought our defensive coaches put together a great game plan. We took advantage of the opportunity and defeated a great team."

Stony Brook, ranked the No. 11 team in the FCS, now heads to No. 2 Montana State on Dec. 1 for a second-round playoff game. Game time is set for 7 p.m., 5 p.m. local, and will be televised on ESPN3.
