Seawolf Spotlight: Scout, 9, Makes Winning Shot at Basketball Game

Denis Lynch won the golden basket contest at a recent Seawolves game.

It was a shot he won't forget anytime soon. During each Stony Brook basketball game Gold Coast Bank of Setauket offers a prize to one lucky contestant who can make a three-point shot. At a recent Seawolves game in December, Denis Lynch, a nine-year-old Webelos Scout from Pack 18 at Setauket School, made that golden basket, and it's a shot he won't forget anytime soon. "I think he was really nervous with everyone looking at him, but he was really excited when he made the shot. The entire stadium was cheering for him," said his mother, Ingrid. The winning shot is usually worth $100, but for each consecutive game that no one makes the shot, the prize is carried over to the following game. Denis won a $400 prize that's going in the bank, his mother said. According to John Tsunis, chairman of Gold Coast Bank, the largest prize ever awarded for the winning shot was $500. "It was a great shot," Tsunis said of Denis's winning basket.
