Seawolf Scoreboard: Stony Brook Shut Out in Soccer, Volleyball

Rough opening week leaves Seawolves winless.

Women's Soccer (0-3)

Rutgers 3, Stony Brook 0: The Seawolves dropped their season opener to Rutgers, ranked No. 18, on Aug. 20. Freshman keeper Chelsea Morales made four saves in her collegiate debut.

Siena 4, Stony Brook 2: Senior midfielder Debbie Aller and junior midfielder Rachel Silverman each scored in the Seawolves' 4-2 loss to Siena on Aug. 27. The Seawolves out-shot Siena 13-10 in the contest.

Iona 1, Stony Brook 0: Morales made six saves and the Seawolves out-shot Iona 14-11, but Stony Brook still fell to Iona 1-0 on Aug. 29.

Women's Volleyball (0-3)

Marquette 3, Stony Brook 0: Marquette topped Stony Brook, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19, in the first round of the Golden Gopher Invite on Aug. 27. Junior hitter Alicia Nelson landed nine kills and senior hitter Ashley Headen landed eight. Sophomore setter Corinne Perry added 20 assists in the loss.

Minnesota 3, Stony Brook 0: Sixth-ranked Minnesota blanked Stony Brook 25-10, 25-13, 25-15, in Golden Gopher Invite action on Aug. 28. Nelson led the Seawolves with eight kills and senior swing hitter Jeanette Gibbs led the defense with 10 digs.

Denver 3, Stony Brook 1: The Seawolves took the opening set, but Denver rallied for three straight in a 20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 win over Stony Brook in Golden Gopher Invite action on Aug. 28. Nelson reached a career-high 20 kills and Gibbs picked up a team-high 18 digs.
