Seawolf Scoreboard: Men's Soccer Wins Three Straight

Leonardo Fernandes puts three in the net to lead Seawolves; women's soccer wins first game of the season.

Men's Soccer

Stony Brook 2, Bryant 1: After a scoreless first half, Stony Brook scored twice in the second for its third straight win. Leonardo Fernandes opened the scoring in the 63rd minute with a shot that deflected off a Bryant defender and into the goal. Bryant answered 29 seconds later with a goal by Norbert Guery. Fernandes netted the decisive goal, his second of the game, on a free kick from 20 yards out. Fernandes has three goals and four points in the two games this weekend.

Stony Brook 4, Central Connecticut 2: The Seawolves erupted for 4 goals in their home opener. Berian Gobeil scored his second goal of the season three minutes before halftime for a 2-1 lead that Stony Brook would not relinquish. Leonardo Fernandes, who assisted on the opening goal, scored his first goal of the season with a penalty shot in the 71st minute. The four goals is the team's highest since September 11, 2005.

Stony Brook 4, Manhattan 1: After scoring only four goals in the first eight games of the season, the Seawolves' offense answered the call with four in their final non-conference game for their first win of the season. Stony Brook wasn't held off the scoreboard for long as Taryn Schoenbeck sent one into the back of the net 3:31 into the game. Sa'sha Kershaw finished the scoring with her second goal of the season, a shot into the right corner in the 50th minute.

Fairfield 3, Stony Brook 0: Stony Brook outshot its opponents 9-1 in the first half but couldn't put one in the net. Freshman goalie Chelsea Morales had five saves in the loss.

Women's Volleyball

American 3, Stony Brook 0: The Seawolves droped their third straight match 25-22, 25-13, 25-23.

Towson 3, Stony Brook 1: Ashley Headen continued her strong play in the second game of the Marriott Cavalier Classic. Her 14 kills weren't enough as Towson prevailed 28-26, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16. Headen was named to the all-tournament team.

George Mason 3, Stony Brook 1: Since winning four of their last five matches the Seawolves fall to George Mason 25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-15 in their opener of the Marriott Cavalier Classic. Greta Strenger, Ashley Headen, and Alicia Nelson all notched double-digit kills.
