Priore's Contract Extended
The last few seasons have seen a lot of momentum in Stony Brook's football program – and a lot of that has to do with head coach Chuck Priore. Stony Brook Athletics announced Thursday that Priore's contract has been extended one year through 2017.
Among the highlights of Priore's career: earning SBU's first-ever win over an FBS team; two consecutive Division I football playoff appearances; and being named a 2012 finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, given to the top coach in the FCS. His overall record is 86-40.
"Coach Priore has impressively led the Stony Brook football program to FCS prominence in a short period of time," Athletic Director Jim Fiore said. "That success has been evident in all facets – on-field results, our academic culture, player development, recruiting and community service. Coach Priore has positioned our program for future success as we move into the Colonial Athletic Association, which is widely thought of as the nation's most prominent FCS conference."
New Volleyball Coach Arrives at SBU
Stony Brook Athletics announced the arrival of Coley Pawlikowski, a three-time recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 award, to lead the Seawolves' volleyball team.
Fiore said in a statement: "We are thrilled to have found a head volleyball coach who has an incredible amount of energy, embodies our five descriptive words - commitment, passion, pride, respect, swagger – and is constantly motivated to achieve success. Coach Pawlikowski is one of collegiate volleyball’s rising coaching stars, and she’s proven that she can recruit at the highest level. Her attributes and her vision will help our volleyball program become an annual contender for the America East Championship and beyond."
In her most recent position as top assistant coach at Wisconsin, Pawlikowski helped recruit two key players, including the No. 1 high school prospect in the nation in 2012 and a 2013 All-American. Her responsibilities included "academic and strength & conditioning liaison, assisting camp director, assistant scheduling coordinator and represented the team in post home match radio interviews," according to SBU Athletics.
Men's Basketball Adds Sharp-Shooting Recruit
Kameron Mitchell has been added to the Seawolves' roster and has begun practicing with the team, SBU Athletics announced this week. Though he is not expected to play this year, head coach Steve Pikiell said he is excited to have him on board.
"It is great to have added an all-around great person in Kam to our roster,” Pikiell said. “He is a good student and comes from a great family, and he will fit in nicely on our roster. As a three-point shooter, he has incredible range and great accuracy. He truly has a great instinct for scoring."
Mitchell, a 6-3 combo guard from Jacksonville, Fla., finished his high school career with a school-record 224 three-pointers, and averaged 21.5 points, 4.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game as a senior. He once scored 48 points in a game.
