SBU Baseball Coach Gets Contract Extension

Seawolves coach Matt Senk will coach the team through 2017.

On the heels of the Seawolves' landmark season, Stony Brook University has extended the contract of baseball coach Matt Senk through the 2017 season, athletic director Jim Fiore announced Tuesday.

Senk led the Seawolves to its remarkable College World Series appearance this past spring, beating some nationally ranked teams along the way.

In a statement, Fiore said Senk has led the Seawolves to their status as a power in NCAA baseball "with class and dignity."

"We are fortunate to have someone with his passion, vision and energy leading and mentoring our student-athletes. We look forward to watching Seawolves Baseball flourish under Coach Senk for many years to come," he said.

During his 22 years as head coach, Senk has amassed a 624-392 record and oversaw the team's transition from a Division III school to a Division I school in 2000. Over the years he coached 21 players who have been drafted by Major League teams, including seven this year. Stony Brook finished the 2012 season ranked among the top 10 teams by several national polls.

Senk said in a statement he is grateful to the university for supporting the baseball team and having confidence in his abilities as a coach.

"My staff and I look forward to a bright future for Seawolves baseball as we continue to recruit and develop talented student-athletes who are passionate about our incredible university," Senk said. "I am proud and honored to lead Seawolves baseball and am confident that our best days are ahead of us."
