Report: 3 Starters Return, Team Will Rely on Youth for SBU Men's Lacrosse

Inside Lacrosse delivers its preview of the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team.

Stony Brook head coach Jim Nagle is busy "getting to know his squad again" following some major shifts off-season, according to a 2013 team preview published Friday by Inside Lacrosse.

Regarding an inconsistent 2012 season, during which the team finished 7-10 (4-1 America East), Inside Lacrosse quotes Nagle as saying: "We looked at the entire season, and we weren’t satisfied with how we went about our business every day and the season overall."

Seventeen players departed and only three starters return, and Nagle is quoted as saying: "The upperclassmen carry every team, but it’s obvious we’re going to have to play a lot of young guys."

According to Inside Lacrosse: among the players to watch are senior Jeff Tundo, a major scoring threat who is one of only three seniors on the roster this year; senior captain Savaughn Greene, who is expected to lead the defense; sophomore Mike Rooney, last year's America East Rookie of the Year; sophomore Mike Andreassi, a "sleeper pick" (and Sachem North alum) who is expected to come into his own this year; and freshman Matt Schultz, a Smithtown West alum who led Suffolk County in scoring last year.
