Girls' Volleyball Falls Short in State Playoffs

Long Island Class AA champions Ward Melville made a run at the state title over the weekend.

After posting a 3-1 record heading into the final round of pool play at the state volleyball playoffs in Glens Falls, the Ward Melville girls' volleyball team dropped a pair of sets in the final round and fell short of a state title on Saturday, according to Newsday.

Emily Astarita had 33 kills, Kristen Bendy had 21 kills, Kellie Rizzo had 43 assists and Jackie Derosa had 20 digs for Ward Melville over the course of the playoffs. Ward Melville went 17-0 and captured its 7th Long Island championship leading up to the state tournament.
