Former Seawolf Maysonet Looks to Impress in Cleveland Training Camp

Stony Brook star running back is trying to find his way among the pros.

The competition among the running backs in the Cleveland Browns' training camp is fierce, Miguel Maysonet said, but even so, he feels he can stand out.

The former Stony Brook University football star and Riverhead product recently gave Newsday some insight into his progress at training camp.

"I'm a guy from Stony Brook, and some people look down on it because of the competition we played," Maysonet told Newsday. "But I'm here for a reason, because they saw something in me. So I'm excited to show them what I can do."

Teams skipped over Maysonet in the draft earlier this year, but the Eagles signed him to a rookie free-agent deal following the draft – and cut him just a few days after rookie training camp.

Along the way, Maysonet said he's learning from Trent Richardson, a star running back who's in his second season out of Alabama, and working hard to try and stand out from the pack.

"You just have to keep working, stay positive with the whole situation of not getting reps," he told Newsday. "It's good. With all the guys ahead of me, I have to bide my time and be prepared when the chance does come."
