Florida State Ends Seawolves' Dream Season

Stony Brook drops elimination game, 12-2, on Sunday.

Despite entering the College World Series as the winningest team in college baseball – with a 52-13 record before the CWS – the Seawolves and then lost 12-2 to Florida State on Sunday to end its best season yet.

Stony Brook, now 52-15, was behind 9-0 before mustering two runs in the fifth inning. Junior Pat Cantwell drove in a run with his ground-out and junior William Carmona brought in another with a sharp hit to right field.

Sophomore Brandon McNitt threw gave up nine runs in 3-2/3 innings, though only four were earned runs.

After the game, Carmona told Newsday that what was tougher than losing was losing by not playing their best, even though they'd ridden quite a hot streak into the CWS.

"We took down Miami, UCF, Missouri State, LSU," he said. "Eventually, the flame fizzles out, I guess, and you struggle. But you can't choose when to struggle. We just struggled this weekend."
