Browns Pick Up Maysonet

Stony Brook Seawolf had been dropped by Eagles days prior.

After being waived by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this week, the Cleveland Browns hopped at the chance to sign the undrafted Riverhead native, according to NBCSports.

Maysonet will compete for a backup spot behind 2012 No. 3 draft pick Trent Richardson, who ran for nearly 1,000 yards in his first season as a pro. Other backs on the Browns include Montario Hardesty, Chris Ogbonnaya, Brandon Jackson and Dion Lewis.

The club waived fellow rookie running back Jamaine Cook in order to make space for Maysonet on the roster.

This past spring, Maysonet became the first-ever Stony Brook University athlete to be invited to the NFL scouting combine, and while he had hoped he would be drafted, he was later signed as an undrafted free agent by the Eagles. Recently named "Male Co-Athlete of the Year" at Stony Brook, Maysonet owns the all-time school rushing record at Stony Brook and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award given to the best player in the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision.
