William Bernhard Named New Principal at Gelinas

William Bernhard has been named as the new principal of P.J. Gelinas Junior High School, effective July 1, 2014, according to the Three Village School District. 

Bernhard will replace Thomas Colletti, who has served as interim principal during the 2013-14 school year.

Bernhard has spent his entire professional career in the district, beginning as a mathematics teacher at Gelinas and Ward Melville High School in 1997. Throughout his tenure in the district, Bernhard has also served as the chairman of the mathematics department at both junior high schools and Ward Melville, a position he currently holds.

“Mr. Bernhard has proven to be an exceptional leader while working within our secondary mathematics departments, and we are confident his leadership will be a tremendous asset for our students and staff at Gelinas,” Three Village Superintendent Cheryl Pedisich said. 

In addition to his work in the district, Bernhard has served in a number of capacities within the mathematics department at Stony Brook University since the fall of 1997. He holds a bachelor’s of science and master of art in mathematics from Stony Brook University.

In recognition of his professional career, he has received honors from several regional educational establishments, including being named a Brookhaven Influential Secondary School Educator and earning the Applied Mathematics and Statistics Outstanding Teacher Award.
