Ward Melville Student Earns Trip to Germany

As a result of his outstanding performance on the 2014 National German Exam for High School Students, Ward Melville High School 10th-grader Jeffrey Michel was awarded an all-expense-paid summer study trip to Germany.

Jeffrey was selected as a national winner after scoring in the 99th percentile on the Level 3 exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German. Nearly 21,000 students participated in this year’s program.

After initially qualifying with a high school on the National German Exam, Jeffrey submitted responses to several short essay questions in both German and English, and was then interviewed by a committee comprised of high school teachers and college professors of German. Jeffrey is one of 44 students in the nation to receive this award. The trip includes round-trip airfare between New York and Germany, a home stay with a host family, and excursions to places of cultural and historical significance.
