Ward Melville Musicians Earn Top Recognitions

Lots of honors for student musicians.

Ward Melville High School student-musicians continue to shine on local, state and national stages, earning coveted honors from acclaimed music associations.

Senior Gabe Nekrutman, an alto saxophone player, has been invited to perform in the All-National Honor Jazz Ensemble by the National Association for Music Education. NAfME’s All-National Honor Ensembles, which are composed of the top-performing high school musicians in the United States, will take the stage in Nashville, Tenn., in October. During the festival, Gabe will perform under the direction of internationally renowned bassist and Mack Avenue recording artist Rodney Whitaker.

In addition to this honor, 29 students (including alternates) were selected to represent Ward Melville at the 2013 NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester and 55 (including alternates) were chosen for the NYSCAME/SCMEA All-County Music Festival. Students were selected for these honors based on their 2013 NYSSMA solo evaluation scores.
