Voter Turnout 'Very Good' in Three Village

Early rainfall doesn't keep residents from casting their vote.

Scores of Three Village residents filed into the district's five elementary schools on Tuesday for the budget and Board of Ed vote. And workers at polling sites were pleased with the overall turnout despite the torrential rain throughout the morning and early afternoon.

When asked about the voter turnout at Minnesauke Elementary School, one poll worker called it "very good" and was confident that the location would reach its goal of 1,000 voters for the day, well above the average.

The feedback was such despite rainfall that inundated central Suffolk County on Tuesday morning. Another Minnesauke worker insisted that, had the rain arrived later, it would have had a more adverse effect on voter turnout.

Nassakeag Elementary School expressed similar satisfaction with the number of residents who had voted as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The heated school board election has polarized voters in the district, with the slate of Faiza Akhtar, Charlie Massimo, Frank McIntosh and Jackie Rudman trading barbs with the opposition, Deanna Bavlnka, Inger Germano, Irene Gische and Jeffrey Kerman. The budget, if approved, would not only cause cuts within the district but also necessitate a 3.8 percent tax increase for residents.
