VIDEO: Ward Melville Students Prep for 'Into the Woods'

Annual musical opens Thursday.

Nearly 60 student actors, 50 musicians, and 20 crew members have been preparing for months to perform in the annual musical at Ward Melville High School. This year, the show is "Into the Woods," which intertwines famous fairy tales like that of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Cinderella – and what happens when their wishes are granted. Patch got the chance to go backstage and behind the scenes with the cast.

Tickets are $20 or $15 for students, children and seniors. Call 631-730-4357 for tickets. Showtimes are 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week.

"Into the Woods" features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. Prominent actresses who have performed in the musical include Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason. It originally opened in San Diego in 1986 and on Broadway in 1987, and won three Tony Awards including Best Book, Best Score, and Best Actress in a Musical.
