On Thursday, the Ward Melville varsity cheerleaders will depart for Florida, where they'll attempt to capture their first national championship at the Universal Cheerleading Association's annual national high school championships. The team is set to perform in Saturday's semifinals. Through fundraising and sponsorships, the team raised about $9,000 to offset the cost of attending the competition, which totaled approximately $14,000, not including airfare. Check out this video for a preview of the team's competition routine.
