VIDEO: Teachers Turn Sumo for Scholarship Fundraiser

Students cheer on their teachers as they face off in inflatable sumo wrestler costumes.

Three Village teachers recently donned sumo wrestler costumes and took to the mats at Gelinas Junior High to raise scholarship money for students in the special education program in the district. The event was hosted by S.A.V.E.—Students, Actions, and Voices Educate—a club dedicated to autism awareness. S.A.V.E strives to show the community that autism affects everyone differently. The money raised by “Sumo for S.A.V.E.” will be used to provide special needs students going on to college with scholarship money.
