Transformer Failure Causes Power Outages in Setauket

Gelinas High School was affected but ran on generator power until the outages were fixed.

A transformer failure in the Setauket area caused more than 200 power outages late Tuesday morning, a LIPA representative said Tuesday afternoon.

Power went out at approximately 11 a.m. at Gelinas High School and the surrounding area; however, a school spokeswoman said that there was no interruption in the school day because of the outage.

"During that time the district worked with LIPA to have power restored. The instructional day proceeded as normal and the school was powered by a generator," she said.

The LIPA representative said all power outages were fixed within 42 minutes to 50 minutes of the transformer failure.
