Three Ward Melville Students Receive Simons Fellowships

Only about 14 percent of applicants are selected to receive this prestigious fellowship.

Three of Ward Melville's InSTAR students, juniors Luran He, Harrison Li and Alan Wei, have been selected to receive fellowships through the Simons Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University, the school district recently announced.

Each student will conduct research in science, math or engineering mentored by SBU faculty members, which will be presented at a symposium later this year; the students will also receive a $1,000 stipend. According to the school district: "Simons fellows work with distinguished faculty mentors, learn laboratory techniques and tools, become part of active research teams and experience life at a research university."

High schools are allowed a maximum of three applicants each year for this program, which was established in 1984.
