Three Village Schools to Close Monday

School district made the decision early Sunday afternoon.

Three Village public schools will be closed on Monday, according to a note posted on the district website.

The note cites inclement weather as the cause; besides the large amounts of snow remaining on the ground, freezing rain is in the forecast for Monday.

In an interview with Patch on Sunday, superintendent Cheryl Pedisich said the decision was a matter of safety.

"We’re concerned about the safety of the roads and the bus stops," she said. "Side roads aren't clear. It’s in the best interest of our students and staff."

Pedisich said the declaration of Monday as a snow day means that if any more snow days occur, a spring break day in March would then be designated as a makeup school day, as previously mentioned during Hurricane Sandy makeup day discussions.

You can thank town if crookhaven for this one. Had they plowed the streets there would be school. I can't believe the way this one was handled, they pulled a lipa. How could there be no plows anywhere? We should get a tax credit for this nightmare. What are we paying for?

30" of snow--you would be the first to bitch if they invested in the equipment for a once every 30 years storm. First people to complain are the ones who didn't listen and got their cars stuck.....and are now blocking the snow plows.

David- once every 30 years that's bs blizzard of 96 was only a few inches less than this. They knew it was coming an also were aware of lipa issues so they had many opportunities to figure out how not to mess this up. There aren't even any subcontracted plows out. 2 weeks ago we had a tiny bit of rain and town plows were out salting!?? a wrong my cars were in garage and didnt block plows but even if they were in street wouldn't matter bc they havent touched many neighborhoods.

Subcontractors are out. My husband has been plowing since Friday. He just went out again this morning to plow another area.
