Three Village Schools to Close Monday

School district made the decision early Sunday afternoon.

Three Village public schools will be closed on Monday, according to a note posted on the district website.

The note cites inclement weather as the cause; besides the large amounts of snow remaining on the ground, freezing rain is in the forecast for Monday.

In an interview with Patch on Sunday, superintendent Cheryl Pedisich said the decision was a matter of safety.

"We’re concerned about the safety of the roads and the bus stops," she said. "Side roads aren't clear. It’s in the best interest of our students and staff."

Pedisich said the declaration of Monday as a snow day means that if any more snow days occur, a spring break day in March would then be designated as a makeup school day, as previously mentioned during Hurricane Sandy makeup day discussions.
