Three Village School District Portal Opens

Students find out who their teachers will be for the upcoming school year.

For students in the Three Village School District, it may be one of the most highly anticipated events of the year: finding out who their teachers will be for the upcoming school year.

Students' teacher assignments were posted last Thursday on the district's website through the portal system. Parents can also view the school supply lists for their child's teachers and get a jump on shopping. Additionally, each teacher posts a letter to their students to welcome them back to school and to let them know what they can expect for the upcoming year. Throughout the year, major assignments and tests are also available on the portal.

"My phone hasn't stopped ringing," said Kim Oliver, a parent of three elementary school-aged girls. "The girls are sort of excited to go back but are also sad that the summer is coming to an end."

Her seven-year old daughter Keri echoed the sentiment.

"I am happy because I have a lot of friends in my class," she said – right before she leapt into her swimming pool.

Parents shared in much of this excitement as well by gathering last week in Oliver's backyard to compare notes on teachers and to reassure themselves that their child would have a friend or two in their class. Lists of teachers names and what child had which teacher were passed around the patio as their kids soaked in the remaining days of summer by splashing in the pool and playing dodge ball.

Parents receive a log in name and password when they register their child for school. Parents who do not have their log in information can call the North Country Administration Building to find out how to get into the portal.

The district has been using the site more and more as a tool for communication as well as an effort to go paperless. According to Cheryl Pedisich, assistant superintendent for educational and pupil personnel services, the district opened up the portal as a gradebook for grades 7 through 12 this year, meaning parents will be able to see their children's grades and attendance.

"It will make communication easier for parents, who can keep up to date on how their child is performing," Pedisich said. "It eliminates the need for progress reports because you'll see grades as they come up."
