Stony Brook Among Colleges Offering Tuition Aid Due to Sandy

Presidents at Long Island's SUNY campuses have the ability to waive tuition for some students, according to Newsday.

Stony Brook is among a handful of colleges on Long Island that has begun offering tuition assistance to students affected by Hurricane Sandy, according to a report published Wednesday in Newsday.

According to the report, state lawmakers in December passed a measure allowing presidents of the three Long Island SUNY campuses to waive fall tuition for those students in need.

Six students have applied for the waivers and the school also reported making efforts to work with other students on tuition in light of their Sandy-related hardships.
