State Comptroller Completes Audit of School District

DiNapoli's office finds many of its recommendations have been implemented in a follow-up audit.

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's office has completed a follow-up audit of the Three Village Central School District, finding that 17 of its 29 recommendations from its initial 2007 audit have been implemented.

Six of its recommendations have been partially implemented, and six have yet to be implemented.

"The senior auditor, at the exit interview, said everybody here was doing a great job. We're happy with it," said Jeffrey Carlson, assistant superintendent for business services, at the school board meeting on Tuesday. "We'll finish up all their recommendations."

Among the outstanding recommendations the district has not yet implemented is a recommendation to establish a district-wide overtime policy "to establish the preauthorization, approval and documentation of overtime," according to the auditors' report. Another has to do with the specific budget code attached to travel and conference expenses.

"These audits are tools for schools to make sure proper policies and procedures are in place to protect taxpayer dollars and provide students with the best possible education," DiNapoli said in a statement.
