Six-Year Graduation the Norm for SBU Students

Stony Brook Statesman reports 65 percent of students graduate in six years.

University statistics show nearly two-thirds of Stony Brook students take six years to graduate – and one school official called it the norm, according to a report in The Stony Brook Statesman.

Data from the university's Office of Institutional Research showed 65 percent of students graduate in six years. In 1993, that number was 53 percent. Richard Gatteau, director of academic advising, said the reasons for this trend vary.

"Six years is a reasonable time frame to finish a degree," Gatteau told The Statesman.
